How we manage wastewater

We plan bin cleaning and exterior washing to protect drains, waterways and surrounding areas.

We plan bin cleaning and exterior washing to protect stormwater drains, waterways and surrounding areas. Before wet cleaning begins, we confirm the containment method and a lawful disposal route for the site.

Before we clean

We check where water will flow, identify stormwater and sewer connections, and assess nearby gardens, public access and sensitive surfaces. Loose debris is removed before washing where practicable to reduce the amount of contaminated washwater.

Containment and recovery

We select controls to suit the work. Bin washing takes place in a contained area, such as a portable mat with raised edges or an approved wash bay. Other work may require temporary containment barriers and liquid recovery equipment. Drain protection supports containment and does not replace the recovery of contaminated runoff.

Disposal

Discharge to sewer is used only where permitted by the relevant water authority and covered by applicable trade waste requirements. Otherwise, washwater is collected for lawful off-site disposal through a facility authorised to accept that waste. Collected wastewater is kept separate from our clean water supply.

Cleaning products

Products are selected for the surface and used according to their labels and safety data sheets. A product described as eco friendly or biodegradable does not make bin residue, detergents or other contaminants suitable for release into stormwater.

Protecting the site

We keep contaminated washwater out of stormwater drains and gutters. Gardens and sports turf are not used as an unapproved disposal area. We monitor controls during the work and pause cleaning if containment fails. Work resumes only after the problem has been corrected.

Site arrangements and records

The quote or work plan confirms site access, the disposal route and any required approvals. Wet cleaning proceeds only when the equipment and permissions needed for the job are in place. Disposal records are retained where required; photographs or a completion report can be included in the agreed service scope.
